There's a DoALL band saw blade to increase productivity on any sawing job.
use on contour or cut-off machines, this blade features a hard edge and flexible back. Blade Metal Master Page 16 For friction sawing of ferrous metals on contour machines at band speeds of 6000 fpm (1830 mlmin) or higher. Cut- ting edge is heat treated for maximum wear resistance at high sawing velocities, and its teeth are set heavier to in- crease heat buildup while maintaining proper clearance for the back of the band. Blade Page Friction 17 Special Application Band Machine Tools DoALL offers a variety of special application band machining tools which are described in the second sec- tion of this booklet. These tools include knife bands, file bands, tungsten carbide bands and others. For more spe- cific information on these specialty tools, their machine and coolant requirements and their specific applications, see full descriptions beginning on page 23.
There are two basic considerations for selecting a band tool. The first is to determine the proper blade type, based on the information below. The second is to determine the best blade characteristics, based on the information pro- vided on the following pages. Your choice should be based on:
• the material to be cut. • geometry of the cut.
• the capabilities of your band machine. High Speed Steel Bi-Metal Band Saw Blades
For cutting tough and abrasive materials. These blades are designed primarily for use on cut-off machines with coolant systems, and with power feed. However, they may also be used effectively on contour machines with or with- out coolant systems, especially on difficult to machine steels. DoALL band saw blades with M-42 hss edge, elec- tron-beam welded to high flex back, for these applications are listed below. Blade PenetratorTM Imperial Bi-Metal™ 101 Page 14 11 For cutting materials of varying cross sections, including structurals, tubing, pipe or extrusions, the Decimal Pitch Super Silencer™ is recommended for both cut-off and contour machines. The Decimal-Pitch Super Silencer with hss Matrix edge (based on M-42 cobalt hss) and high flex back reduces high-pitched squeal and blade damaging vibration. This is an excellent blade for efficient sawing of solids, tubing and structural shapes. Blade Page Decimal Pitch Super Silencer™ 13 For general purpose use on cut-off and contour machines, we recommend the versatile Imperial Bi-Metal™ 100, with its M-2 hss cutting edge, electron beam welded to a high- flex back. Blade Imperial Bi-Metal™ 100 Page 10 For the lowest cost-per-cut in sawing mild to tough materi- als in solids, use the Imperial Bi-MetalTM contour or cut-off machines. Blade features a 5-degree positive rake, hss cutting matrix edge, electron-beam welded to an ultra-high strength, high-flex back. Blade Page Imperial Bi-MetalTM102 12 Carbon Steel Band Saw Blades DoALL offers a selection of carbon steel band saw blades for contour sawing and cut-off machines. Applications are listed below: For use on light-duty cut-off and contour saws, use Dart® blade with an all-purpose hard edge and hard back. Suit- able for use with or without coolant systems. Close-up photo shows how DoALL uses space-age electron-beam welding technology to bond super hard (to M-42) hss cutting edges to high-flex steel back. This provides the optimum combination of long tooth wear with maximum band life. DoALL has also pioneered tooth form designs which minimize blade damaging harmonic vibrations.
Select the right tooth form for clean cuts and efficient chip removal. Blade geometry
Pitch Pitch refers to the number of teeth per inch. Pitch selec- tion should be based on the thickness of the material to be cut. Thin materials require a greater number of teeth-per- inch, or a finer blade. Thick materials require fewer teeth- per-inch, or a coarser blade. Other factors, such as work- piece material and finish must be considered for final pitch selection, but at least two teeth should be in contact with the workpiece at all times. Not all blades have a con- stant number of teeth per inch. These variations are described below. Decimal Pitch Decimal Pitch blades are a DoALL exclusive, designed to reduce sawing noise and vibration to lengthen blade life and reduce operator fatigue. When the right Decimal Pitch blade is selected for a job, it will also cut faster and cleaner than other types of blades. Teeth are arranged on a Decimal Pitch blade in a har- monically derived ratio to tune out vibrations. A blade with a 5.5:9 blade for example, begins with a relatively coarse 5.5 pitch, gradually increases to the equivalent of a 9 tooth-per-inch pitch, then gradually decreases to a 5.5 pit- ch. See illustration below. Single Pitch (conventional) Blades Conventional blades have a consistent number of teeth per inch throughout the entire length of the band. These blades are best suited for cutting solids of consistent density, where vibration and noise are less likely to be a problem.
A number of physical features of a blade determine its suitability for various types of work. Some of these charac- teristics are described briefly below, as an aid to the pro- per selection of the blades that will offer the best combi- nation of accuracy, productivity and blade life. These char- acteristics include: Blade width Blade width is measured from the back of the blade to the tip of the tooth. The wider the blade, the greater its beam strength. Wider blades follow layout lines with greater ac- curacy. For straight cuts, use the widest blade your machine will hold. For contour cuts, use the widest blade that will cut the smallest radii required by the work. See the chart below.

GAGE l
Blade Set Set describes the total amount the teeth are offset to pro- vide side clearance for the back of the band.
Blade Gage Blade gage refers to the thickness of the blade stock. Heavier gage blades provide greater beam strength ... Where blade width is limited by machine capacity or radius cutting requirements, beam strength can be in- creased by using the same width blade in a heavier gage. Tooth Form Tooth form refers to the shape and profile of the tooth and gullet. Three types of tooth forms are offered by DoALL, each of which was originally developed for a specific pur- pose. These include:
Raker Set teeth have a pattern in which one tooth is offset to the right, the next to the left, and the third straight. It is recommended for general purpose work, especially con- touring.
U::J I LJ._J I rJ:J LJ_JJ
Precision~ The Precision tooth form is the most versatile. Because of its smoothly radiused gullet, it is recommend- ed for both the most intricate contour work and straight cut-off work. It should be selected for finest edge finishes, thin workpieces and extremely small radii. Precision tooth form is available in the greatest selection of blade types.
Wave set teeth are set in a gradually offset pattern from one side of the blade to the other, to provide a smooth cut- ting action on tubing, angles and structurals; or on any work where the cross section of the workpiece is not con- sistent.
Straight set teeth alternate left-to-right, tooth-to-tooth. These blades are recommended for free cutting work- pieces in softer non-ferrous metals, plastics and wood. Available only in carbon alloy-type sa·., blades.
Buttress~ Buttress tooth forms are similar to Precision, except that the gullet has been lengthened to handle lar- ger chip loads. It is recommended for accelerated cutting of non-ferrous metals, wood and plastics.
Claw Tooth~ The Claw Tooth form has a 10-degree posi- tive rake angle and a lengthened gullet similar to the But- tress tooth form. The Claw Tooth provides faster cutting of all metals, wo~ds and plasti?s, and is particularly recom- mended for thick work sections. The positive-rake teeth li_terall~ pull themselves into the work. This great penetra- ting ~b1l1ty allows lower feed pressures, thereby extending tool life.

Imperial Bi-Metal™...a family of the most productive band saw blades you can buy.
■ Faster cutting rates ■ Longer band life ■ Easy welding ■ Higher accuracies
■ Increased fatigue resistance • Greater abrasion resistance • Uniformly hard cutting edge • Consistent cutting rates ■ Uniform set wear ■ Uniform band life Hardened hss cutting edges on a flexible steel backing The Imperial Bi-Metal blade offers the best of both worlds. You get all of the advantages of hardened hss cut- ting edges, electron-beam welded to a safe, long lasting flexible steel backing that will withstand fatigue for as long as the teeth are useable. DoALL developed the Imperial Bi- Metal high-speed steel band saw blade to eliminate the compromise between the metallurgical character- istics required for hard, tough cutting edges, and those required for a fatigue resistant flexible back. With the Imperial Bi-Metal, the best of several metals for each pur- pose are joined by electron-beam welding into single band. As a result cutting rates can be increased up t~ 50%, and blade life is up to four times longer. The blade is also ex- tremely safe to use. If broken it will not shatter. ' Harder, longer lasting, more uniform cutting edges The superior high-speed steels used in DoALL's Bi-Metal blades provide the hardest possible cutting edges. Microstructure of the steel compares to that in the highest quality hss end mills, taps, reamers and drills. Teeth are uniformly hardened from their tips to the point at which they are joined to the flexible backing. The en- tire manufacturing process is pre- cisely controlled and fully automated to ensure repetitive quality. Hard- ness is consistent, tooth-after-tooth, blade-after-blade. Set is guaranteed within 0.002 in. (0.05 mm) accuracy. Higher tensioning means longer life The high-flex backing material used on Imperial Bi-Metal blades allows higher band tension, and lasts longer without fatigue failure. Blades are easier to weld, and top weld quality 8

is easier to achieve. On a 1 in. wide (25.4 mm), 0.035 gage (0.9 mm) blade for example, up to 30,000 lb/sq in. (2100 kg/cm 2 ) tension is recommend- ed. This assures higher cutting rates ...as much as 50% in some cases... better cutting accuracy and longer blade life. The backing material and its heat treatment provide flex life and wear and abrasion resistance to match the ~apabilities and durability of the cutting e~ge. The backing material is also easily weldable, a decided ad- vantage_ to users who purchase their blades 1n coils for cut-off and con- tour sawing work. Special welders are not required.
The blade worth resharpening The full-depth tooth hardness and long flex life of Imperial Bi-Metal blades makes from one to four re- sharpenings a profitable practice. Tha~'s because you restore original ~utt1ng rates, and still have enough life left in the blade to offset the resharpening cost. Choose the blade that best suits your needs. Different high-speed steels and different heat treatments are used t_o provide Imperial Bi-Metal bl_ades tailored to job requirements. ~ive _types are now available, as escnbed on the facing page. DoAL~s Decimal Pitch Super Silencer cuts faster, quieter and longer than any blade you can buy for interrupted cuts. The Decimal Pitch Super Silencer gives you all of these advantages- • Quiet operation • Reduced vibration for greater accuracy and longer blade life • Less tooth chippage • Improved finishes on cut surfaces • Best performance in general purpose sawing of struc- tural shapes and solids • Easy to justify pricing when evaluated by productivity and life improvement J
Decimal Pitch is DoALL's latest advance in sawing tech- nology. Each tooth within a given section has a different effective pitch and gullet depth. The ratio between the finest and coarsest pitch in a section is harmonically derived to tune out or cancel blade damaging, noise pro- ducing vibrations. These blades are identified by two num- bers. The 5.5-9 blade for example, has 9 pitches in each section, ranging from 5.5 teeth to 9 teeth and back to 5.5 teeth per inch. This design lets you select the best blade for a workpiece based on the size and shape of the mate- rial. This blade is also an excellent choice for cutting solids as well as structurals.

The design means much quieter, smoother cutting, without the high-pitched squeal and vibration that's asso- ciated with the cutting of structurals and other materials with varying cross sections. The Decimal Pitch Super Silencer can reduce the noise level on tough sawing jobs to well within the acceptable OSHA range, without sacrificing cutting rates or blade life. Tests indicate that on structural and thin-wall applica- tions, a substantial increase in performance can be expected. The Decimal Pitch Super Silencer Guarantee If the DoALL Decimal Pitch Super Silencer blade we recommend for your job doesn't outperform all other Blades, we'll take it back, and refund your money. DoAL~s Dart : The carbon-alloy steel blade with spring tempered back for all contour
and cutoff band machines. The Dart is available in three tooth forms (Precision~ But- tress® and Claw Tooth®) and in three set patterns (raker, wave or straight set). Compared with ordinary hard-edge, flex-back carbon blades, the Dart will- • Cut harder, more abrasive materials with its hardened and tempered teeth ■ Provide up to 50 percent more sawing life cutting dry and up to 300 percent greater life cutting wet
■ Withstand band tensions up to 50 percent greater than those that can be applied to standard carbon blade while resisting stretching and twisting ■ Allow heavier feed forces to be applied, permitting faster cutting ■ Produce straighter, more accurate cuts ■ Better resist "mushrooming" or scoring of the back edge and sides The spring-tempered back of the Dart band has 50% more tensile strength than ordinary carbon steel saw blades. This increased tensile strength allows the use of high band tension, which in turn gives more accurate cuts at
The Dart handles your hardest, toughest cutting jobs, and lasts longer than ordinary carbon alloy blades. heavier feeding pressures. The increased hardness of the band back (44 Re) better resists "mushrooming" of the back edge and provides greater resistance to scoring than does the standard carbon blade. Choose the right Dart for your needs from the chart below. Caution: The Dart is not suitable for speeds in excess of 4000 sfpm.

DoALL!s Metal Master, the hard-edge, flexible back economy blade for general purpose sawing. Low initial tool cost a major factor?
Plagued with high blade usage because of inexperienced or numerous band machine operators? If so, Metal Master carbon alloy saw blade may be the answer to these pro- blems. It's available in widths from 1/16 to 1 in. (1.6-25.4 mm), Precision and Claw Tooth forms, and pitches from 2 through 32. Heat treated to 62-63 Re Metal Master is manufactured from the finest high-carbon alloy steel, made to DoALL's exacting specifications. The cutting edge is milled to precise, consistent sharpness and heat treated to 62-63 Re. Light production or general toolroom use Metal Master can be used on any contour or cut-off band- sawing machine when high-speed steel or the more ad- vanced carbon alloy blades are not justified. Its sawing ap- plications are primarily designed for light production or general toolroom use. The metal sawing limitations are identical to any carbon alloy blade whose cutting edge is dependent on low band speeds and feeds. Wood, plastic and other nonmetallic materials can also be economically cut with Metal Master saw blade. Refer to the chart below to select the Metal Master blade that's right for your application.
An economical and versatile blade, available in Precision tooth forms.
